Fish Usually Not Kept As Pets?

I caught a shiner in a trap that I was planning to feed to my bigger fish, but it's been such a happy and fast moving fish that iv decided to keep it, and actually really like. Any others?

I have kept a few nice looking feeder goldfish due to their color patterns but over time they ended up serving their intended purpose.

I got a warmouth in a minnow trap that I was gonna use as bait and ended up keepin em.

That was my original plan for the shiner, but for whatever reason I have just become attached to it.

Common Carps....I have one here but they are rarely kept as a pet due to their dull color. They should be perfect pondmates for koi carps and goldfish.

Pardon the derail but what do you bait your trap with?

I'd say any North American cyprinid. There are a bunch of cool, colorful fish right here in the States that are routinely overlooked. Heck, over in the North American native fish section we're discussing what is essentially a North American version of the bambusa.

Usually a mix of some crumbled dog biscuit, bread and crackers.
