"Fish" vs. "Fishes" (with a reference to beer!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Think of it like "People" and "Peoples"

I say "Fish" no matter what. Same with Shrimps. Sounds like a bad brooklyn accent. And just because I;m from Brooklyn doesn't mean I have a Brooklyn accent!

I would still call them all fish. I think when describing fish like, "my fishes fin" or " My fishes eye" etc, is a way to use fishes.
Except those cases are possessive, not plural so they would be "fish's eye" and "fish's fin"...
But as mentioned before, fishes is correct when referring to multiple groups (ie species) of fish...

Beer.

"Man, go get us some beer"

Beers.

"Man go grab us a couple beers."

Fish... Just fish. I know it is proper to say fishes with multiple species, but just go to any fishing dock and tell the locals that you just "caught a ton of fishes." you'd get beat up.
