Fish with Attitude and Personality?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
either a group of africans as suggested.. or just about any med sized sa/ca kept alone would fit the bill imo. personally i like keeping singular fish if I want more interaction. but african interaction with eachother can be hilarious at times. The group of africans will likely be abit more tank maintenece then a single medium fish. So something to also consider. But either way you'll need good filtration and regular water changes so it shouldn't be too significant of a differance.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm not sure if she would be up for just a single fish for it. Knowing her she'd probably want at least a handful of fish and not just one fish alone for the whole tank. She also doesn't seam to have that much interest in an African tank, tho we'll see after we stop off at a LFS or 2. And it also has to live for life in this tank, upgrading later is out of the question at this point and time and possibly forever.

If you want multiple fish you could do a community setup. Angelfish or discus(depending on preference and budget), and then toss in whatever you like...dozens of relatively easy to find tetras, rasboras, plecos, cory cats...german blue rams, bolivian rams, roseline barbs, whatever you wanna toss in there :P
Only problem might be angelfish eating the tiniest fish like neon tetras.

or a colony of firemouths or thorichthys aureus

or red ceibals if you can find em :)

Angelfish/large tetra community woulda been my other suggestion. personally I'de do a single Angel as a centerpeice fish and et a few nice school going.

or a pair of keyhole cichlids..

Pairs of anything in community type tanks always seem to lead to disaster one way or another. and by keeping liek a Single Angel you'll get teh personality and the human interaction of a singular fish tank.. but also the activity of the many fish tank type.

Alright so we have a free 55, and my mom is comming to me to help her find fish she likes to stock it with (and that I like >.>) and all I gotta do is keep it clean and such, easy. She wants fish with "attitude" and probably good personality, I was thinking a Jack Dempsy maybe. Anyways any suggestions on fish to go with would be great.

I this is your first cichlid tank, I would suggest a pair of Convict Cichlids.......

I had my palm to my face half the time at the LFS, They walked out with 6 tiger barbs 5/6 Head & Tail Light Tetras and 2 Red-Tailed Black Sharks. Oh well whatever floats their boat. Still more fish I get to enjoy =D

I walked out with a $13 beta, now the most I've ever spent on a fish previous was my Oscar at $10, But its got great coloration and my girlfriend wanted it even tho she told me "No more fish or turtle stuff for the next 2 pay checks." And I managed to walk out with a job offer and I'm just like **** YEAH:headbang2
