A few days ago there was some kids over and they spooked my barrmundi (10 inches) resulting in it slamming into the glass. Now it is sitting at the bottom with little response. It usually responds to people and follow them around but now its all gone. when it moves it just uses its pectoral find to push itself backwards. When it tries to swim it literally spins around and cant swim straight. I have never had this happen before can anyone let me know if it even have a chance of survival. I can try taking some pics and videos if necessary. Thanks

Sorry to hear this mate.
Do you see any dorsal or caudal fin movement at all or are they collapsed & flaccid?
Please upload a video so we can try to help diagnose 🤷🏻‍♂️

minimal movement with caudal fin and i dont recall seeing much movement with the dorsal fin either. one the pectoral fins are active when it moves. when it tries to swim its more of a twitching and fluttering like a dying bait fish action rather than a fluid and controlled swimming action.Screenshot 2025-10-01 at 5.16.49 PM.png

If it is moving the caudal fin at all it’s unlikely a spinal cord transection as this would result in total paralysis from the level of the cord break.
This is merely a hypothesis (as an ICU RN)…it is possible it has internal head/spinal contusion w swelling from the impact, like a bad concussion, which is causing the symptoms & will hopefully be reversible as the swelling goes down. Only time will tell mate. Sorry 😞

thats good, i thought it was worse. right now it is barely moving but at the very least i still see some movements. Do you think and meds would help it heal up faster or is it just about keeping the water quality clean and hope it can recover over time. thanks for the help regardless.

Magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) may help as magnesium is a smooth muscle relaxant. Again, a hypothesis, but it could potentially help relax area of spasticity around & beyond the injury.
1tbsp/5gal is what I would try 🤗
An anti inflammatory could possibly help but I have no clue how to work out a weight based dose from a human dose for a fish. Non-steroidal meds are rough on the kidneys in humans so it would be very easy to OD a fish and kill it’s renal function.
I’m not sure of other meds that may safely help in an aquatic environment.
