ok so im getting a 2 year old red bellied turtle. i would like to put it in with mabey a bullhead and a grass pickerel. the tank size is 135 gallons. the turtle is a female.

My RES doesn't like fish MOST of the time. I have seen her let feeder goldfish live for a year and then tear into them. It's possible, but I wouldn't but any fish in that you like.

depends on the turtle really. I have 3 rosy 2 black neon tetra 1 convict with my 5 inches RES. Turtle will chase your fish for about 3-4 days until they realised they r too fast and gives up. Provide lots of hiding places and obstacles to slow down your turtle in the tank and your fish will survive

yea im just not gunna risk it! i am just gunna get new baby painted turtles. ill keep em in my 20 gallon with mabey a 3" spotted pictus cat. then ill just make a native tank with my 135 gallon consisting of bullheads pickerel and perch. mabey some sunnies.

That sounds like a cool native tank

Not sure thats going to work with the water level. If they are hatchlings you don't need more than 3-4 inches of water. And adding pictus cats may be asking for trouble, they have very sharp fins/spines. I have had to remove them from nets before and always ended up with one going through my finger. If the turt gets too close or bites onto the fish it may end up without an eye or a nasty wound.

Also, why not just keep them without fish? You won't have to worry about keeping a "cycled" tank thus maintenance will be that much easier aka empty what little water there is and clean the filter without having to worry about preserving bacteria. Not to mention feeding.

It sounds like these are your first turts? Keep it simple.
