Also, why not just keep them without fish? You won't have to worry about keeping a "cycled" tank thus maintenance will be that much easier aka empty what little water there is and clean the filter without having to worry about preserving bacteria. Not to mention feeding.

It sounds like these are your first turts? Keep it simple.

I agree, it's really hard to keep a turtle tank cycled under 150 gallons. Before my pond I had Poki in 120g with ehiem 2229 and a fluval 405, and it still needed massive water changes to keep the water clean.

Not to say it isn't possible, but turtles are pretty destructive when the feel the need.

Speaking of pickerels, mine just died randomly last night.:( Have no clue why, eating fine, swimming great and acting normal. I wake up and hes floating.

if you are gonna keep turtles with fish, it works best to do mainly aquatic species of turtle, such as. fly river turtles and softshells.

if you keep your turtle well fed there is a slight chance it wont eat your fish, but if he thinks the fish looks like a good snackl, he'll eat it. the bad thing about keeping your turtle in an established fish tank, youll be raising the ammonia immensley risking all of the fishes lives taking the chance of causing an ammonia spike. If you do put your turtle in the tank: Do routine water changes (25-30%) 2x a week. to lower the ammonia load in the tank. I DO NOT RECCOMEND PUTTING YOUR TURTLE IN WITH FISH. There is a big risk that your taking of your turtle eating the fish.
