After ten years at the LFS, I can tell you it's not the big "monster" fish that shouldn't be sold, it's the decorative marine stuff with specific dietary or environmental requirements that shouldn't be...

And the difference folks, is that the bulk of common "monsters" are farm raised (pacu, TSN, even 'paimas), while ALL difficult marine fish are wild collected.

I agree with ALL of it pertaining to a beginner aquarist buying a ten gallon at petsmart. I don't believe that the author meant it for the most die hard of monster fish keepers.

that is true

I agree about the pimas. Sorry guys a 6 foot fish is not ment for a home aquarium unless it is several thousand gallons

I agree with the paddlefish, rest just aren't really meant for someone with average commitment for the hobby. The comments about rays being dangerous to the aquarist were pretty exaggerated.

i would never say ANY fish should NOT be kept .. i dont like regulations ... i just think people should be educated before they try to keep fish .. the problem is 100% education and nothing more ...

i have seen all of these fish kept happy and alive in many many cases by members here at MFK ... restrictions only lead to more restrictions and before you know it the hobby will be dead ..

I don't see how anyone could agree when your talking about the "monster fish keepers" on here. We got guys with 50000 gallon tanks, LOL!!!!! SO anything is a go. Although, I have to say I would agree to the avg. fish keeper!!
