Fishaholics Anonymous--How Bad Are You?

My name is GolemGolem and I am a fishaholic.
Almost every cent I used to spend on booze, weed, and ketamine, any extra cent period goes into my fish. My wife don't mind so much, she's gotta get her goldfish and beta fix. I've wanted to get a larger guitar amplifier for a year, so I could play cleanly over drums....getting this old 75 up and running so I can start some larger cichlids, and getting her goldies into another 75 comes first though. Every morning , even before I make coffee I turn on the fish lights and feed, make the coffee, shave and clean up, and come back to smoke and drink coffee, as I watch my fish and this durn forum. I go to work, come home, kiss my wife, and feed the fish before I start making dinner..water changes after we eat.
I fear what I might do if I give up tobacco.

Fishaholic?Pffft~ I'm a friggin Fish Junky! I am powerless over my addiction and my life has become unmanageable.

My addiction counselor once said that the definition of addiction is not being able or willing to stop after said actions cause repeated problems in daily life. These problems were listed as legal, marital, employment etc.

So does that mean I am not a "fishaholic" since I have never been fired, divorced or arrested because of fish? Hmmm. Maybe I don't have a "problem" after all. I should get a new tank to celebrate. :D

 love it! Go get that new tank friend!

I think most people who are good at the hobby of fishkeepiing are naturally Obsessive - Compulsive (OCD). Due to the very nature of the hobby and the sheer amount of knowledge one must amass and the time involved in this hobby it is a requirement.
We all have aquaintances who have failed in this hobby for one reason or another and mostly that is due to the time demands and of course financial demands.

So, yea. I don't have a problem. I am just working on getting a 600G tank for my 6" MBU.
That's not odd, is it?

My name is Bellycrawlerjaws, and I'm most certainly a fishaholic. It all started with a bowl and 2 goldfish my senior year of high school, no knowledge of anything. Then it became a 5 gallon tank at college my freshman year, then it started to snowball when that tank crashed my junior year. I bought a 15 gallon, and my first "cichlid"... a blood parrot. "Chubbs" lived for 2 years in the 15, then I decided I needed something bigger... a 37 (stupidly didn't think of the footprint). He died from a parasite and I bought an oscar baby on an impulse... Just an excuse for something bigger... Soon after I bought a 90 gallon, set it up, and left the 15 running with convicts for feeders... Then I decided I wanted more and bought a 10 gallon for under the 90 for cory cats... Then the 90 leaked and I had to go back to the 37 and re-stock all over again... I'm currently dealing with having to have the smaller tank (parents won't let me set up a big tank again till I move out), but bought a 20 long to put under it haha...

So I went from a bowl to... a 15, 10, 20L, 37, and a 90 (sitting empty in their office)... With a 55 and 125 from a friend on their way in the spring.

My gf is learning to deal with the idea that if we get our own house... the basement "man cave" is going to have a custom, in the wall, 8' x 3' x 3' tank, with it's own room behind it... Not to mention having a 75 gallon in the office...

All I think about is fishkeeping, oh well. And yes, almost everyone in this hobby on here is OCD about something... I know I am for sure
