any chance your any were near fresh water shad/herring because i dont think thats a big shiner

It has to be a herring. However everyone there was saying it was a shiner (I planted the idea, so maybe they were just agreeing). This was in the St. Johns River in Central Florida. We have threadfin herring but they don't get larger than three inches in the river. This one didn't have the thread on it's dorsal.

Great idea. We've done that with sharks but it never occurred to me to do it with FW fish.
 
Kinda looks like a gizzard shad. Would catch a really big bass.

your rite deffinatley a gizzard shad that didnt come to mind at first, and they can even get bigger then that!

I catch shad like that and cut them up into chunck best catfish bait I have ever found

I do that with bass ,if you dont they get a funky flavor when frozen
