After weeks of looking to try and buy a bowfin online and failing ive decided to just try to catch one. Tomarrow (Sunday) i am going to get up early and go back to the slow moving water that connects to lake erie and see if i have any luck. I know some people that say they have seen dead bowfin floating in that area before, But my question is does anyone think i will have any luck this time of year?

I have no idea but good luck!

By the way, have you called around to any of the hatcheries in your state to see if they breed Bowfin?

Never thought of it but ill look into it. not sure where they are around here though.

The michigan DNR does not breed bowfin. They are pretty abundant around here, north oakland county. You can catch them on live bait or dead fish, the stinkier the better.

I pulled a bunch up on spinnerbaits in the middle of the day at the end of august last year. Not too big of a help to you probably but its something.
