I just used lures. Mostly spinnerbaits and crankbaits like the Bomber Fat Free Shad.

Cool im mainly a bass fisherman and I have plenty of crankbaits and other lures...my mother in law is retiring soon and going back to Nicaragua where she comes from and ill have an oppurtunity to fish for cichlids...thanks alot for the info

Good luck to you. For the mojarras, small plastic mini jigs fished under a bobber worked really well for me. Dovii's also ate it. If you go to my website there are a lot more tips for all these fish on their species pages: www.howtocatchanyfish.com
