Fishing for Polyodon spathula. 11-1-08

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are VERY thick in April at the dam. Ive been wading and had them swim right up against me! You almost always snag one by accident. They are beautiful in person with a really cool purple sheen to them

This species is listed as "Vulnerable". Very disappointed at pic #8.

True you are but now where im at. Very over populated. Where i fish, they are down stream of a spillway so no way to go upstream and they are upstream from a submerged day so they cant go downstream. So they stay in this area and breed, breed, breed. If you got a good depth finder, you can just ride around and watch them pop up on the screen.

Breed, breed, breed? There's a bit of a market for fry. :naughty:

It many states you can catch and keep these guys. In mine, you can keep eight a day on most bodies of water. Paddlefish #s are fine now.

My bad. Sometime I confuse "Federal" status and "state" regulations.

Sri you want some? I figure since I'll be fishing for them next April, I may try to milk a few and hatch some fry.

Druu, let me know when you go, if the water is right I will show ya some spots where you can make an attempt wrastle them in bare handed! Grabbing the caudal peduncle of a 4ft spoonbill will the be the most exciting 0.476963 seconds of your life!
