Where in NY are you? I am on Long Island. If your willing to brave the cold you can catch fish all year here. I know caz i do. I just take the very very cold month's (Jan-March) off because being on a boat when it's 10F and the wind's blowing 20mph is just to painful no matter how much i love to fish.

Your not to far away then. Maybe we should meet up some time for some fishing. U ever fish Fire Island Inlet?

Yes we catch Wreckfish in 400FT of water just before the drop off for the canyon. Sorry i didn't take any pic's but my friend did take a pic of the one we caught on the last trip. I will see if i can get it from him. We get those quite often out there along with the tile fish off the deep reefs.

look like this?

Not my pic

But interestingly theyre considered, along with Giant Seabass to be in the Striper familoy. This family is a link between black bass and grouper.

They do look like a huge Black Seabass. Some mates on party boats would be like "Holy Crap, huge Seabass!" Hows the fight? I imagine they immediately run into structure when hooked. Most structure dwelling fish do. When my Dad takes me to the pier and nothing else is biting, we go for Cunner, and as soon as you set the hook you need to reel or else they wrap the terminal tackle around the pilings.

It's a male Striped Killifish that I netted from a tide pool on the Brewster Flats in Cape Cod 3 yrs ago.
