What kind of fishing is there in San Diego?

I'm going to be visiting my bro there from next Sunday and want to get a heads up on this as I will have some time to myself..

Maybe some helpful MFKers can post up good fishing spots and tackle/bait suggestions, and this can be used as a reference for other San Diegans too.

Also ... info about the licenses required would be great!

Thanks in advance!

How close are the Monster Bass lakes to San Diego? If you can make the trip, you might catch a world record on Lake Castaic.

Bro ... you're asking the wrong person. I've never been to the States before! :D

Well, when you get here, welcome! Glad to have a great Monster keeper visit the country that considers itself the greatest country in the world, even though many people in this country are too lazy to get out of their pajamas to go out in public. Cali has some of the best Largemouth Bass fishing in the world.

Thanks bro ... and looking forward to it!

I'm not sure if I'm a "great monster fishkeeper" ... but just trying to get my hands on some of the fish I love and trying to take care of them as well as I can.

Okay ... back to the topic now. Any more recommendations on fishing spots in San Diego and the licenses required to fish them?

You CALI boyz are lucky for your bass have a longer growin season then the northern or eastern area's of the U.S. :irked: :D oh well ...

If you are planning on doing freshwater fishing, most places are private lakes and do not require a license. I am not aware of a whole lot of places to go freshwater fishing in San Diego, but if you travel north a little bit to Riverside county(about a 2 hour drive to a fishing spot), there a few lakes there that you can go to like Lake Skinner or Diamond Valley Lake to name a couple. If you are planning on doing any saltwater fishing, SD is definately the place to be. Lots of charter boats. You will need a license to do that, and I think a saltwater license will run you about $50. Been a while since I fished in the ocean, someone else here will probably know better than myself when it comes to that.
