fishing question ?

I agree with general concensus. My go to line strength is 6lb. I've caught plenty of big fish on it. Size isn't your big factor, it's the strength they fight. Some fish roll in like logs, some species lb for lb are known for snapping lines. Set your drag proper, don't fight or reel against the fish if it's running unless you have to turn it, and remember that you should be fighting the fish by lifting the rod from down to up pulling it towards you, then bringing it back down and reeling in the slack. The last one is important because that's when the rod will absorb sudden bursts or shakes and help the strength of your line.

Or get a braided line with the same diameter of your mono line which will have like 10x the lb test and just horse em in. Not as fun to me, but i can see how it could be fun when every drift you get a fish and you just want to bring em in quick and get your line in for that big one.

Hello; May i add that if you follow the previous mentioned suggestions, do not try to lift a heavy fish out of the water with the line. I try to get them next to the boat and lift them with my hand.

using braided line the same diameter as my mono would not risk snapping my rod ? been thinking about this too but I kind of scare to try

learned that the hard way , forgot my landing net and tried to lift a very big fish (6pound + topmouth culter ) from a small jetty , would have been the biggest fish of my life if i had landed it , my 4lb line snapped at the knot ,lost a good lure and fish ( maybe still around with a lure dangling from the mouth or dead from starvation by now )

of course... I have caught a 19 lb 15 oz bowfin off 6 lb line on the lightest rod I have. If have the patience, skill, drag, etc. It's definetly possible.
