FISHING SEASON 2K11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do agree that SW fish will usually more readily eat a bait then FW fish.

However, SW isnt just dropping a bait down and waiting either.

Today I went to the pier (didnt fish but wish I did) and the bonita were running thick. While they are "easy" to get to bite, they will quickly turn off your jig unless they are jigged just right. Thats why one guy that knows what he is doing fishing right next to some one that doesnt catches 10 and the other guy doesnt catch any. Plus these little 5lb fish will absolutely wear you out after a few. They fight HARD. I like to use just 10lb test on them and man they will make a reel scream.

I give props to the good bass fisherman that can consistently catch bass, even if its a lake theyve never fished. But at the same time the popular game fish such as Billfish, Tarpon, Bonefish, and Tuna arent always easy to get to bite either and once they bite that is just half of the battle.

One thing I like about FW over SW fishing is that its a heck of alot cheaper. An average offshore trip in my uncles 24ft CC with just a single 225 on it will cost $150 in fuel, and another $100 in bait and tackle. When the current is running and youre forced to use 8oz sinkers at $5 a pop to get to the fish yet every 5th one takes you into the wreck and breaks you off it adds up quick just in lead. Not to mention the hooks, fluro and line youve lost. The big game fisherman spend probably $2k on a day trip.

Supposed to be in the high 50s tomorrow! I'm going to give it one more shot before the ice-up!

The big ones will whoop your butt. No joke. I wasn't even trying to catch one just wanted a small kingfish for dinner. I think i fought it for 40 minutes, I had to call it quits after that one.

Everyone has their own idea and style of fishing, no shame in that :)

On the subject of tarpon. I caught probably a dozen or more of these little rascals in the pic and they fought and jumped and pulled like crazy, I cant imagine what the big ones do. At the dock where I went out diving, there were 6-7 footers probably 100 pounds and bigger and I was simply amazed at their size and appearance. HUGE!!

Those tarpon are awsome. Were did you catch them?

Those were caught in a mangrove inlet at a campground in Key West :) Caught them on 4lb test and maribou jigs. Lost half a dozen jigs! They were really a blast. You can see hundreds per hour rolling at the surface. Been like that every time I have been there.

Went to the pier today not to fish but to hang out with some friends while they shark fished. Im going to have to get me 12/0 and join them next year. Using fresh bonita for bait, and an kayak outfitted with a remote control electric motor to take the baits out it wasnt long before my buddy hooked up into this girl. She was 6'9" and quickly tagged and released. Bonus points if you can ID it.
