FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice bass! Went to a nearby creek that's barely ankle deep in many places and hit the 10ft hole that holds tons of bait fish, suckers, carp, panfish and little channels and got skunked but gave up quick.

not discouraged at all, just anxious! Kid #2 comes right around when the flatties are turning on!!! I am slightly flustered by that haha

i can imagine thats frustrating man... just think the ones u cant get next year will be that much bigger next year!

okay guys... it's time for gear again! having a mental predicament with this.

I got that bass pro extreme combo for christmas, I LOVE the rod, but I can't stand using the reel. The magnetic brake is a POS and I spend more time picking backlashes than fishing. Taking that back to bass pro this weekend in the hopes for a refund. I put my johnny morris gold series on the extreme MH rod, so that thing is a perfect combo and I love it. Rod is strong enough for plastics and spinnerbaits but the tip is sensitive enough for crankbaits.

so here's the deal, I can use that combo for EVERYTHING, but I kinda feel like I should have a separate combo for cranking simply so I don't fish this JM in to the ground. I have a tourney special 7' M rod I just ordered that has already handled a 6lber nicely, so i'm facing the option of getting a reel for that or getting a new combo completely.

I will be getting $80 if that return goes through and also have $50 in BPS gift cards. I'm willing to throw another $100-$120 on top of that if need be. I have two options. I can get a low range reel like an abu silvermax or a BPS nitro series to throw on the tourney special 7'M, or i can go balls to the wall and get what I really want and drop the money on a revo S or SX that will last me forever and pair it with a vendetta or veritas

If I do get low range $60 reel I will be spending the $80 from the return on a penn fierce 4000 and offshore angler rod combo

What would you guys do? go with the fairly inexpensive option that may last a few seasons before needing to be replaced, or just go ham and get a reel that's gonna last me 10-15 years. I know that there's a certain responsibility that should be taken in to account as far as money but at the end of the day I'm about to get a few hundred in tax returns and I have the $130 in credit sitting in wait.

Option C is to get the revo S and stick it on the tourney special for a season until I raise money for a nicer rod.

Just looking for some opinions, thanks! I kinda feel with my parents splitting up I'm using this as something to focus my energy on. Regardless i'll end up with a new reel though I guess.

I would get the silver max, a quality reel an great company with great factory warranty and use the rest for your penn fierce. I love the thumb release options on the silvermax.

I agree with josh, silver max is nice reel.

definitely nice to hear people have faith in it i haven't been able to find much on it... my big concern is the longevity of a chinese made abu vs a swedish made model. would sure be nice to have both the silvermax AND penn fierce for the salt vs just the one baitcaster.

its funny... when I was a kid we caught fish just fine on our $20 walmart setups... now i get all uppity and worry about other people judging me if i don't have the best gear out there. smh. Very confusing time in my life all fishing things aside. i really need to get my values together.. a vacation would be nice for sure

Last week the family and I headed to Disney World to celebrate my daughter and my wifes birthdays. While there, Friday, I got a chance to get away and visit a buddy In Melbourne, FL to do some fishing. Luckily his job allows him to collect tons of excellent baitffish - large seminole killifish. We used a friends of his twelve foot jon boat and hit a local canal that fed into the Sebastian river. It was a cool place. We put in just down stream of the spillway. Above the spillway was freshwater dumping into brackish water but at low tide it was mostly freshwater which made it pretty cool to see a five ft bullshark swimming around.

The little canal was loaded with wildlife including several manatees, gators, turkey and deer. Oh and of course fish. Our target for the day was tarpon and snook. The fish werent too cooeperative but I did manage my first ever tarpon which was a blast on light tackle. Also landed several jack crevalle.

Today, back home, a buddy and I decided to hit the pass for sheepshead. Armed with only fiddlers and shrimp and sheepshead gear we were pretty disappointed that after a few drifts we didnt get a single bite. The Gulf was forecasted to be pretty rough but it appeared to die down so we ventured out a few miles to some numbers I had. It turned out to be a good call as I caught three nice triggers, and a nice flounder. My buddy was smashing the black seabass and caught a seventeen inch monster. We also caught at least thirty endangered red snapper. Overall a couple good days of fishing.
