FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I scored a brand new Okuma Cedros Speed Jigging Reel for forty bucks today at a swap. I was a bit too late pulling the trigger on a couple of twelve foot Penn surf rods and a nice Penn 9/0 that I needed for beach shark fishing this summer though.

Im trading a guy two AK mags and a hundred dollar BPS gift card for this reel to go on the new jigging rod. The reel has everything I want in it including thirty three pounds of drag and forty two inches of retrieve. Even comes loaded with brand new fifty pound boat braid. I am a little concerned about it as Ive never seen one personally and I cant find much information about it but Diawa has really been impressing me lately with their new stuff and for less than twenty bucks out of pocket as the BPS GC was a gift, its worth the risk. I cant wait to put it to the test on a big ole reef donkey as soon as the seas lay down a bit.

Fishing stuff aint cheap.

very nice. Salty gear is definitely a whole other world.

its a good thing its not cheap, or there would be even less fish for us than there already is!

picked up another 6500c3 :) Done with gear for this season. May upgrade a few reels next year by changing gears, bearings, etc... may also add an alphamar for christmas next year, but I am quite content with my arsenal for the year. Also got a mepps musky killer for a local lake that stocks musky near my flathead river (Ironically, this lake frequently floods and meets the river so there are likely musky in the river and flathead in the lake). Also some sinker slides, big river hooks and some SPRO power swivels. Those swivels are super nice. Going to order some Kat Bobbers (they are like noodle jugs) to use at my cabin house lake to catch those big flatties I saw while diving to keep my bait off of the bottom.

NCState, I played around with some silver maxs' today and they are real nice! I am not super impressed with the Revo for the price...

went to BPS today... they actually didnt have any silvermaxes in stock! With $85 in return for my BPS extreme and $50 in gift cards on top of a $25 off coupon for their bassmasters classic event.... i ended up with the revo s. I really was gonna get the silvermax but I basically got the revo for free as I didn't pay for the extreme in the first place.. will see soon if im happy with it, worst case scenario i return it for a full refund next time i come home

I did find a catfish rod in my garage at home, dunno if its any good though. it's a "mudville catmaster" 8' MH, know anything about em?

Im sure the Revo is a great reel, just expensive. Not sure what it offers that the silver max wouldnt?

Ive handled those rods but never fished them. They are a low end rod but I would be perfectly comfortable using it for small to medium sized cats. Most people don't like South Bend brands in the catfish world, but they seem ok for a specific purpose. They are inexpensive enough, that if they break, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Let me know how you like it.

will do, dunno if i do enough catfishing for it to be worth bringing back up to raleigh though. its a spinning rod instead of casting and i dont have any big spinning reels

officially out of the fish keeping hobby now. The most I am going to be doing is "bait keeping" a stash of bullheads and sunfish for bait haha.

Man, Ive been on a gear buying spree as well. It seems like Cabin Fever has really hit home. We are all gearing up and ready to get on the water.

We had a BEAUTIFUL December and January with many days in the eighties but February has been down right dreadful. Temps in the sixties, rain, clouds, WIND and more WIND. Nasty is putting it lightly. We have eight days of rain in the ten day forecast and the seas are just as nasty to boot so it looks like it wont be any fishing for me in awhile.

Anyway back to the new grab. I got a Shimano TLD 15 on a crappy rod. I only paid fifty for it so Im pretty happy as the real, despite being almost ten years old is in great shape. The rod just needs some fresh flex coat on the wraps around the guides and it will be good to go. I dont have too much offshore stuff but now that Im really getting confident in my boat I am starting to stock up on some of the heavier tackle. The TLD I am going to load up with 50lb braid - it holds seven HUNDRED yards of it - and use mainly for free lining for snapper. I still need to find me a TLD 25 on a broom stick to load up with eighty pound braid for hossin up the grouper out of their holes if they ever reopen them for us rec guys...

700 yards?! thats absurd hahaha
