My go to lure would have to be a 3-4" bluegill on a carolina rig. 4-8 oz sinker pending current and a 6/0-8/0 gamakatsu offset circle hook pending on bait size.
But if i acutally have to list a lure, id say a BPS squirming squirt 1.5" tube on a roadrunner jighead. Usually orangeflake top with dark yellow peppered tentacles or brown body with charturese tentacles. I have caught absolutely every kind of fish on these things and are great for catching bait like green sunfish.

I remember using bluegill once as bait that was the day I caught the most bass

The first thing I pull when I'm fishing bass is usually a buzz bait, green or white booyah. I also like the Spro topwater frogs. Great sizes and they are weighted perfectly so you can chuck them out a good distance. If the topwater is slow I'll throw a spinnerbait, I have a lot of terminators because where there are bass, around here, there are also pike and they destroy spinnerbaits that aren't tough. My last go to for bass would have to be a texas rig. Get down into the deeper beds or drop offs and move slow and work for em.
I definitely prefer topwater though. It's just way more fun.
