Nice redears!......but I feels a little offended with your statement "I beat you!" by catching a different species that is larger than Northern Bluegills.

I think he was saying it in a joking matter. I don't think he was saying that his are better even though they are bigger. I think he's just adding on to your statement in a joking matter. (sounds better in my head) lol

These fish you have are redears, not bluegill

Your wrong, redears will have red/orange around the outside edge of the blue circle on the gill, hence the name. Here is a pic for reference. Show me in my pics where there is any red/orange. I live in southern California and I haven't seen a redear around my parts.

Clearly these fish you have ARE redears in breeding colors and they were stocked in California too. Not all redears have red spot around the ear but they also have white margin on the ear too.

The top one is female redear and the bottom is male redear in breeding mode.
