So my mom just told me we are planning on going white water rafting next saturday. She is planning on bringing a bunch of people and we will probably take 2 big rafts. I was asking her about fishing and she kept saying no because we dont have the space and we get to the place from a big van and they take us back too. So im looking for a small fishing pole I can use. I wish I still had my mitchell travel outback that would be perfect. But I am planning on going to walmart to look for a small fishing rod I can use. I would love to get the mitchell back but the top is broken. Anyways I want to bring something small and hopefully walk in the shadows or look around. I also want to buy an underwater camera and a us diver snorkel set. So ill be looking for all of that stuff when I go to walmart next time. So I plan on either fishing or snorkeling. One or the other. But ill more than likely be swimming. If not ill look for a small travel fishing rod. Ill talk to my mom and see if I can maybe take my 6'6 vengeance rod. I believe it folds and that should be small enough to transport. Wish me luck in trying to fish. Might have to go noodling ;) lmao

I've been hitting up Lake Balboa almost everyday since I started and have really improved my rigs, knots, casts, etc to the point where hooking a decent sized tilapia or carp is almost a guarantee. I also tried out a new spot by the river that runs parallel to the lake for the first time today, which was a nice break from the norm because I was catching new fish. Today I caught the Mozambique tilapia, some other cichlid sp. (sunfish sp.?) - need ID, and a small (blue?/channel?) catfish. Being a fishkeeping hobbyist I was amazed by the rivers diversity of smaller aquatic life (lots of mosquito fish, and other cichlid species (probably tilapia or sunfish), but there were also a lot of species I couldn't identify from the banks. Anyways, I'm always looking for a fishing partner if anybody lives around the area, shoot me a PM and I'll show you where my favorite spots on the lake and this river are.

green sunfish / bullhead catfish

You may be amazing that you have a "rich biodiversity" but all of these fish are bad signs for healthy ecosystems.

You have green sunfish and black bullhead.

Please elaborate. There are springfed lakes that I love to fish in central florida that have 3 different types of catfish, shiners, LMB, SMB, pickerel, gar, crappie, and 4 different types of sunfish/bluegill as well as carp (pretty sure grass carp).

The only nuisance fish in that ecosystem is the tilapia. Because they are known to attack but not eat the other fish's nests, and they are mouth brooders. Meaning that they harbor their young themselves in their mouth to give their species a winning edge as they drive out the competition by breeding them out.
