I added another snapper stick to the arsenal of, according to my wife, WAY to many rods and reels that I already have. Speaking of too many, how many IS too many?

But back to the new one, its a Penn 5500 SSV loaded up with 40# Suffix 832 Ghost and sitting on an Okuma Cedros jigging rod. It is going to put some HEAT on those hard fighting snapper.

While we are at it, I laugh at the bass guys that use 50# braid, here are some pics of two sharks including a 250-300lb bull, both pulled up with 40# braid off my kayak! Oh, and no wire leader!

agreed on the 50# braid for bass fishing JD i'll never understand that.. nice sharks, the two times i've made it down to the coast this year i've seen a LOT of them. that new combo looks good and should put a hurting on em, i'm considering getting a battle 6000 on a tiger light for similar bottom fishing/jigging applications for black bass snapper triggers porgies and the occasional AJ/Grouper

I have another 5500 SSV on a tiger lite jigging rod and its great as well, heck those sharks were landed on it, but it wouldnt work a jig over 5 oucnes as well as this Cedros will.

Spring for the extra $60 and get the 5500 SSV, its smaller then the 6000 battle making it more comfortable for the BSB and smaller reef fish but also STRONGER giving you more of a fighting chance against grouper and AJs. For only a $60 difference there is no way Id consider a battle over the new SSV unless I just wanted a reel for something like kings or sailfish or any other fish that isnt going to run me into structure!

that is a good lookin reel i hadn't checked out the new spinfishers much.. 30# of drag on the 5500 thats impressive! I thought the battle was doing pretty good at 25#

The battle 6000 is 20# which really is plenty enough drag as it gets damn hard to hold a rod with that much drag! However, the SSV is just built stronger and can handle all of that extra load for prolonged fights. Plus, I was wrong, there is only a $50 price difference.

I have a couple of battle 6000s and Ive had some issues with them on the kayak. The sealed body and drag system of the SSV is perfect for saltwater use as we all know salt water aint the gentlest on metals.

well.. i wont be getting either anytime soon. just went to get my oil changed and found out one of my wheel bearings is about shot and has to be changed very very soon.. as in the next couple days. there goes that money =[

I love my battle 3000 but I don't get the opportunity to fish at the beach but maybe 6-8 times a year if im lucky. the sealed body on those SSVs definitely look like a great selling point to me

Man, I'd like to go to Crabtree creek soon, but with all this rain and flooding there is no way. I hiked down the creek a little and found a great spot with tons of gar. Caught a nice bowfin too.
