great news dreams. Glad to hear you got on some fish.

Ive been feeling a bit better and managed to gather some energy and motivation and have fished 2 weekends in a row now (only 2nd and 3rd flatty trips) and have been on fish but nothing over 15 pounds. Headed out again the next 2 weekends if everything goes according to plan.

Went trout fishing today, was okay even though I lost another spinner... I always lose my frikin baits.

Here is that big fish that was caught before the tournament. Dad got a 36lber out of my favorite hole the week before.

Unfortuantly the tournament didn't go as well as planned but finished in 3rd anyways. we caught over 30 flathead but couldn't find any over 10lbs.
That's a monster!

Tell me about it... I've lost so many lures and baits. I should start buying in pairs lol.

Went fishing since 9am yesterday morning until 6 pm on my pond in ny catching just over 40 bass. Nothing over 2 pounds. I wasnt targeting anything specific I was just trying to catch something. I caught about 20 bass that were all the same size, which is 4.5-6" I guess Its the fry from this season. They are everywhere! Heading out at 6am which is in 5 hours so I've got to go to bed. I had a monster bass break me off today. Snapped my 8 lb test on one of my spinners like it was 2 lb test. Started reeling him in thinking I had a huge fish then he jumped and started swimming towards me, then I started to reel in and he just took off and snapped the line without effort.

Caught 4 bass this morning at 6am nothing big. Any tips to catch only big big bass? As in over 4 lbs only. I hate these little 2-3 pounders. I catch way to many of them. How could I target larger bass?

swimbaits like a Spro BBZ-1 Swimbait 6" will catch you larger fish but you would need a swimbait rod or you wont be able to cast it. or the largest live target field mouse will catch you some big bass and you will be able to cast it without a big rod. heres smallest IMG_20130819_161857.jpg and biggest IMG_20130819_175749.jpg fish my friend caught the day he used the biggest mouse. but of course your not going to catch as many fish but you will deffinatly get some big ones if you use the big live target field mouse

andrew why not just be happy you are on fish? the obvious answer is to use bigger bait that the smaller bass wouldn't be interested in however the fact that the smaller fish like your presentation could mean the large bass would too, just that you haven't dropped it in front of them. You knew the answer to this question before you even asked. Don't be silly.

I figured the answer was larger bait. But I was also looking for the exact type of bait. I just didn't type that the way I was thinking of it. But I got my answer above. Ill have to get a large live target field mouse.

there is no one single magic bait andrew. it varies by body of water due to environmental conditions. a bait that is on fire in north carolina is not necessarily going to work in new jersey. Keep using what works and you will get on fish.

Very good point Jworth. Look at the Fluke or Super Fluke, arguably the most popular and most thrown bait, currently or was fairly recently. It worked for me when I picked up on it for a while and soon died off after just 4 months and 3 season changes (Florida....fall is really a light summer, winter is really fall, and spring is back to near miserable) and it died out and haven't thrown many since. Even when they weren't working I'd do what I always have for as long as I've been bass fishing.

Go back to a rubber worm or a 5-10ft diving crank bait. When those fail? Live bait.
