Thanks! They're white sturgeon. Every year a couple fish over 10ft get caught. These are considered small. My biggest so far is over 7ft.
Rough start when you show up to the lake and the guy at the boat launch says they just finished electrofishing and clearing out the smallmouth. Still got a few though.
A buddy and I went catfishing yesterday morning, just shorefishing at one of our favourite cat hotspots. Water was high, which usually makes fishing there more difficult but we lucked out by being there just as the cats had begun to move into a warm shallow offshoot of the main river, an area that will be largely dry ground by the end of the summer. We had a spectacular day, caught close to 40 big cats including 4 Master Angler qualifiers, all before 2pm.
But what made it an extra special day was sighting a Lake Sturgeon cruising past us along the shore. The fish was only 10-15 feet away, in very shallow water, and was seen passing by as it entered the warm bay and then again a few minutes later as it exited in the opposite direction. I had a catfish on my line and was desperately trying to either land it or lose it, with some vague vain hope of tossing my bait in front of the behemoth but to no avail. My fishing partner tossed his bait into what we judged to be the path of travel and his rod gave a mighty shake as the fish passed, but we think it was just brushed by the body of the fish rather than being taken into the mouth.
By far the most exciting fish of the day...and we didn't even hook it, much less land it...
I've only fished in your area one time, when we made a trip specifically for sturgeon on the Fraser. That was fishing from a jetboat; a ton of fun, but honestly, shorefishing the way you show in your videos is to me far more appealing. Someday...

We typically fish water 30ft+, but I have seen them come into 3ft of water. They're scavengers for the most part, but they'll try to ram and disorient fish for a chance to eat them. Seen the trying to run 5lb pink salmon into the rocks.
That's an awesome day even without hooking the sturgeon. Seeing one that close from shore is something you don't forget.
