Ive used trot lines for channel cats. My friend also just bought a cast net and that thing is really fun to use for just about everything once you get used to it.
While swimming I've been known to catch baby bullhead with my hands, haven't been stabbed....yet.
I jumped out of a boat once, trying to catch a longnose gar. It beat the snot out of me. I've seen people bowfishing for them and carp, not sure if that counts cause some of em use a closed face spinning reel.
i used to drop-line striper bass off my grandfathers boat when it was docked..
25' nylon cord (300# test) and a huge hook..
tie a chunk of bait ( bunker/ mackrel) onto the hook..
toss it over the side..
within a few minutes.. 14# - 60# striper would be on..
nothing like hand linning one of those in..
