Can some body please tell me what is going with my water... I am new to the hobby and try to setup a new 180g tank. I follow those steps of doing fishless cycling of some members had posted in this forum using Ace Hardware Ammonia. It had been 7days that I added ammonia and keep it at 4ppm. On the 8th days my Ammonia had dropped to 1.0 ppm then I added Tera SafeStart live bacteria into the tank to speed up the process. On the next day my tank water had change color and stay like that till now 11th. I want to know if this is normal or did I do something wrong? Please advise....:(

Day 1: pH 8.0 Ammonia 5ppm Nittrite 0
Day 2: pH 8.0 Ammonia 4ppm Nittrite 0
Day 3: pH 8.2 Ammonia 4ppm Nittrite 0
Day 4: pH 8.0 Ammonia 4ppm Nittrite 0
Day 5: pH 8.2 Ammonia 4ppm Nittrite 0.25
Day 6: pH 8.2 Ammonia 4ppm Nittrite 0.50
Day 7: pH 8.0 Ammonia 1ppm Nittrite 0.50
Day 8: pH 8.2 Ammonia 0.25ppm Nittrite 0.50
Day 9: pH 7.6 Ammonia 0.50ppm Nittrite 0.25
Day 10: pH 7.6 Ammonia 0.25ppm Nittrite 0.25 Nitrate 0.50
Day 11: pH 7.6 Ammonia 0.50ppm Nittrite 0.50 Nitrate 0.50

Here are some pictures of my tank water before and after 7days of fishless cycling.

Which picture shows the current color of your tank water?

What temperature have you been running the tank at?

Even using ammonia to fishless cycle took me 3 weeks to complete the cycle, which is still faster than using NO ammonia.

I'm really not sure how to fix or explain where your at with your water..

but I could suggest starting over and using Stability.. just look it up..

So I just wasted two weeks.... :(
This is not cool....I had followed the exact step by step of fishless cycling method and did not let the ammonia get over 5ppm. Does any one know what is going on with my water? or it is just an algae bloom that cause the water turn green? Is there a way to fix this? :(

If youve had the lights on it could be an algae bloom, or it could just be discolouration from the "live bacteria" you put in.
I wouldnt worry about it, just keep dosing ammonia every day until its cycled then empty the whole tank. Youve solved the discolouration issue and have got nice new nitrate-free water for your fishies.

when your cycling your tank you dont want your lights on BB grows best in dark conditions even though most will be in your filters it will be establishing on the surfaces in your tank. what spectrum are you using for lights?

The discoloration is proabably from the bacterial you used. It appears your ammonia and nitrite are already pretty low according to you post which leads me to believe you cycle is almost done, if i am reading your listing correctly, you could do a partial water change and add some seachem stability to help get the water back to clear and it should not effect your cycle or your BB that appear to be established already. Of course don't change any filters or anytyhing just do about a 40% water change and that should really help dilute the discoloration. Again if I am reading your listing correct it seem that your tank is about cycled anyway. After the water change bring the ammonia up to 2ppm and see how long it takes the BB to eat up the ammonia and nitirtes. You may very well be done..
One thing I notied is that your tank seemed to have cycled pretty quick even though you PH appears to be high. I was under the impression its best to keep PH around 7.0 -7.5, or at least that what I read, I'm no expert by no stretch of the matter.
Good luck, I hope you are there soon.. It's so painful waiting on a tank to cycle. I know I am there with you..

Thanks for the replies guys... I keep track with my water parameter everyday and for the pass three day my BB took about 8-10 hrs to bring the ammonia from 2ppm down to 0.25-0.50ppm.
And I use 2 Marine Double Brights LED 36" on 24hrs a day. I thought that I saw somewhere said that BB need light to grow that was why I let the light on all the time.

I also have in hand Aqua 25Watt UV Light and I want to know if itssafe to use it now to clear out the water or I have to wait until the tank is cycled and fully stock? Thanks for the reply!
