You can kill bb a few different ways: cleaning w/ tap water, drying out, hot water, not enough oxygen exchange, and toxicity/contaminents.

8ppm ammonia is nuts, be patient! And hooking up the canister directly to ur new tank as stated above was a great idea!

i think you mean, that's why they put chlorine/bromine in the tap water with added ammonia, to kill off organisms. the ammonia attaches to the HOCl to create a more powerful agent than just the HOCl alone. ammonia used alone would not achieve this, in fact, it would do the exact opposite and allow the bacteria to flourish.
ammonia can also be found in water sources before even getting to the water distributor due to runoff from livestock at water holes, fertilizers and aquatic life.

Lol yeah thats obvious so i didnt think i needed to explain chlorine, just ammonia because it was rellavent!

No problems tho, the dose also varies w/ town to town and possibly more w/ the warmer weather which is why its good to test your tap!

Yes ammonia by ITSELF would feed bacteria

for instance, my city goes severely overboard on the use of chlorine in the water. it reeks. but they don't use any ammonia additive, so my tap water comes out at 0 ammonia, but i have to at least triple the amount of prime i use per 10 gal of water.

Maybe switch to bulk SAFE then, it will save you $$$ in the long run, 1 bucket of it would last you for life!

Wow, that w/ the fact prime is easier too makes it a better option imo, powder is powder..


Have u tried api dechlor? Cheaper then prime. I just cant stray from prime, its always worked 100%

i haven't used API dechlor, i'm pretty happy with prime to be honest. i've always felt it has done more than the job for me.
 
The guy has added seacham. Let that do its job , it's good stuff. Shouldn't need anything else
