fishless cycling problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The guy has added seacham. Let that do its job , it's good stuff. Shouldn't need anything else

Ive never added anything to cycle a tank. I just use old bio media thats seeded on my new tank wait a few days and perfecto!!!

Seachem does make good products tho!

F1-agreed.
I only used sea sachem on my current tank. It's good stuff.
Before that, just transferred filters and transferred old media and gunk from sponges into new filters.
Then after 1 week , added like 1 fish per week, and fed lightly for a while.

thats what anyone would do if they have old media

but if not seachem stabilaty works fine

im confused... im ammonia dropped at least 2-3 ppm, (its down to 3-4 ppm), but still not a sign of nitrItes>??? how is this possible?

If what you added had bacteria that are able to handle the nitrIte, that's one possible explanation.

Ammonia readings being wrong is another possible explanation.

NitrIte test kit being wrong is another.

I can't think of any other explanations so pick one :D

Thats why i run 1.5gal of bio, if i or a friend ever needs to establish bb in a hurry i have extra

Be careful that the tank you steal the bio from doesn't spike. Even if you think it's just a small percentage of the total it may cause problems if you aren't careful.

hmmm what do you guys think.... ammonia dropped to 3ppm (started at 6ppm), NO nitrItes, 5-10ppm nitrAtes. Been using seachem stablity for the past 4 days.

you could have missed seeing the nitrite spike. the fact that you are seeing nitrates tells me that the nitrite consuming bacteria are there and doing its job
