fishroom build and 800 gallon tropical pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My ghetto temp setup in the spare room, you can see why my girlfriend wants it out, she didnt mind the 100g tank but the ponds a bit much, im hoping to have fish in the new pond within the next month. My giant gourami loves to jump hence the lids, theres no point investing in a acrylic lid as my koi are going back in this pond once the new ones ready

This is going to look amazing I love setups with lots of plants in and around it. I have photos and bamboo and some other unknown plant growing out of the sides of my and I love it. I'm wondering why you didn't go with a glass front panel, that way you could have done the waterfall without any issues

Yeah i really wanted to go with a window i have to glass here but with the postion of the door and the breeding tanks i wouldnt of been able to see the window, but planning has already started on a 12' wide x 4' deep x 7' high paladurium in the living room wall so one day il be able to see my fish properly, this is hopefully just a test pond to see if i can care for the plants. This pond is going to be for my koi eventually.

I picked up some hose connectors to use as bulkheads which i found in clearance for 10p each! So theres 5 around the pond cemented into the walls 1" below water level, these are only 15mm i know theyre small but should be good for flow and i already had a spare 1200lph pump so not bad flow for 50p. The main pump will connected to the water fall which im starting making at the weekend. I also got 2 twin output timers for hose pipes for £1 each so i will set the bulkheads to change direction of flow a few times a day rather than have all 5 flowing at once

Just a quick update, the filter ponds mould is off and looking good, ive put insulation down ready for concrete in the base, ive arranged a few plants to get a feel of what its going to look like. Those pipes are the two 4" overflows which il be putting filter socks over

I finally worked out my waterfall situation, i wanted a cascade style but didnt want ripples so i put the waterfall in the filter pond instead, and il make another trickle stream style waterfall on the big pond. Not bad for my first attempt im going to do a smooth coat when this dries, i used left over drain pipe to put plants in and im going to run a water line into them and plant pothos in them so they have a supply of water which they should filter then the water drains back into the filter pond from behind the waterfall so everything is hidden.

Looking good matt making plenty of progress  can't wait to see the finished project , I noticed your a fellow manc :) there's not many of us on mfk where are you based ?
