I do know that I don't need a tsunami of water in my living room due to a shoddy tank.

They will make bigger than 300G. Taken from their site:
"If you're looking for a custom aquarium, call or E mail us with your request
Include the Length x Width x Height (96" max length, 48" max width and 48" max height)"
I e-mailed them for a quote on a 10x3x3 a few years ago and they said they do not do longer than 8'.
I did a comparison of features versus cost and it seems FTD is a better deal due to free shipping to your door (And I am in AZ near Tru but would need to pick up and then pay 8% tax)
Additionally FTD adds overflows with all the piping, dampers, media and returns in a package as well sump tank options that are savings over Tru. Seems Tru will sell all those items post sale.
I wanted to go Tru to patronize a local business but lead time, quality of materials, (guarantee etc) overall costs and inclusions were key factors.
I hope to see my 96x48x30 in 5 weeks.

I might be looking at the 96x48x30 next year for my SA preds.
Ive been looking at this site for awhile - and it does seem pretty ghetto, but hearing good things from members I think I might give it a shot.
