So lots of threads about size and type and wattage, but I don't see anything about fitting the lights.

So I have a 90 gallon 48L, 18D, 24T. Right now I have just fish and 54 watts of T5 HO lighting, linked below (one red 6000k and one white 10000k I think)

http://www.aquaticlife.com/products/277

I have tried a few plants, swords, anubais, java moss, and they all slowly die over a month or two.

So it's about 0.6 watts per gallon right now. I could MAYBE fit 1 more fixture and still open the lid, so 1.2 watts per gallon. To get up to 2 watts per gallon I'd need to hassle with lifting the light every time I feed the fish.

So, how do people even fit 3-4 watts per gallon over their tank? Is it normal to remove the lighting every time to feed? I find it strange no one else has this problem.....

I also did the lumens calculations and its even worse, somewhere around 60 right now, which is at the low end of "just fish"

And yes, my tank is a dull yellow. I have goldfish in there and at the store I bought a black one and a golden brown one, under this lighting they are both brownish.

The bulbs in the link are 54w each, if you have a dual bulb fixture it is a total of 108w. Assuming you have the 48" fixture of coarse

Will someone help please? I'm looking at a new light, such as

http://www.buildmyled.com/freshwater-show-tank/

and for 48" it is just shy of 5000 lumens. That works out to be 43 lumens score based on the sticky calculator, which isn't even in the 50-150 range for fish only. To get moderate I'd have to spend $1500 on t of these things?

im so confused. I've looked all over and am just not seeing lights without output high enough to get to those numbers.

I think you are getting confused on a few aspects of lighting. Hopefully some experts will come by and help out. But if you based the info on your lights off of 54w that's why it seems so low
