Around.....
I someone stepped on one of the glass tops for my 180...the back non handle part. Is there any good way to repair it? Same thing happenned on my 70 gallon i just duct taped it. Anyone else got any better ways to DIY fix it?

THANKS!!!

Get a new piece of glass. Take the measurements to a local glass shop. Only cost you a couple bucks.

I agree with the glass-shop advice.

I have a 150 with no tops at all, can anyone tell me how big the gap is in the glass when you use one of those rubber hinges? I can measure for tops, but I don't know how much o subtract for the hinge in the middle.

on my 180 i'd say the inbetween is abotu a quarter inch... plus leave room in back for the filters and stuff like 3 or so inches.

my mom said she is going to the glass shop and will get a replacement. but i duct taped it and it seems to be doing fine for now

thanks everyone!

do you have those plastic extensions that come off the back of the glass? im not sure what they are called. I bought glass tops new a few years ago and it came with them. Anyway, if you put them on it will hold the 2 pieces of broken glass together. the only bad part is that it will leave no room for the filter intake and outake. So use the broken glass top with the plastic extension on the side of the tank that does not have the filter components. It has been working fine for me for over 6 months.

I wouldnt use glass for lids.. they are too delicate...

Use acrylic glass instead.. available in home depot..

Acrylic can have its draw backs too, like it can fog, the light can melt and deform the lid, plus it could scratch like crazy when trying to clean it. Glass is a better way to go because its way more durable then the acrylic. Yes glass can break but doesn't have the issues that the acrylic does, I think it out weighs the issues anyways. MTC

You can always just put a bead of silicone between the panes. Works just as well as the plastic hinge.

If you keep arowana like i do.. Glass is certainly not a good idea.. I've since and witness first hand myself of the power and effects Arowana's can do.. they freak easily and they jump.. If you have a glass lid.. and its not as durable as Acrylic.. they will crack... I've see too many threads on MFK from members who have glass lids and other weights to weight down the lid.. that actually caused a major disaster as the arowana jumped.. not only cracked the lid.. but the weight on top of the glass fell into the tank and cracked the bottom glass...

I would say that if you have fish that are peaceful and aren't jumpers.. use glass lids... Otherwise.. Acrylic is a MUST for any aggressive and belligerent fish..
