Fl gar tank mates

I too wanted schooling fish for my tank. I currently have a 17" silver aro and a 16" spotted gar. I purchased 6 - 4" spotted silver dollars for my tank. I was hoping that my aro and gar would ignore them as they are pellet trained and are never really given live feeders. I also have a small school of neon tetras that they leave alone. I was half right, the aro totally ignored the silver dollars where as the gar found an immediate attraction towards them. Slowly and surely the gar devoured each and every single one of them. Lesson learned
I have a 8in spotted gar 2 Oscar s and. Small school of silver dollars I'm about to relocate do to the beating they have been taken I'm thinking of adding a peacock bass and a biker open to ideas
