fl heat tank in garage

Here's historical climate data for Lakeland, FL:

http://cirrus.dnr.state.sc.us/cgi-bin/sercc/cliMAIN.pl?fl4797

Summertime AVERAGE daily high temps are in the low 90s and AVERAGE daily low temps are in the low 70s. Due to the higher specific heat of water versus air, your tanks will likely not reach the daily high temps during the day and not drop as low as the daily low temps at night. The key is to watch out for heat waves when the temps get above 100 and don't drop below 80. Then you'll be looking for other means to cool your tanks, such as floating frozen 2 liter bottles of water inside them during hot days.

Regardless of factual data from Newton or anyone else, I'm telling you that I have lived in FL for 7yrs...WITH TANKS IN THE GARAGE...and the water has risen above 82F 1 to 2 times max in that time.

I assumed it was the flow rates I had going on but now I know I was wrong.

Doesn't matter really I suppose. The answer to the guys question is YES, you can keep tanks in Florida garages WITHOUT chillers and they will be fine.

DarthLungFish saw my tanks for the first time today. PM him and he can attest to the health and well being of my fish. :)

Good stuff all the way around though guys. Very informative.

I didn't know there was a business for sale around here Chompers...Fill me in or give me a link. I've got some money to get in on it if it's legit.

How bout you just close the garage off and put an air conditioner in the window. Alot cheaper than a chiller. Then you could put more tanks in there. P.S. I have a 400 gallon on my back porch and when the temps get to 92 daytime and 80 nighttime in the mid summer it stays a constant 85. This month however since the temps start to drop at night and are lower during the day my temp dropped to 76. I put my heater in now and hold the water at 80. This time of year if I don't there is major fluctuation. Not good. Middle of winter I hold the water at 76.

It closes in an hour on eBay. It is way overpriced. They have about $22,000 in salvageable inventory. The problem is they want $45,000 for it. It started at $25,000 but didn't get any takers. So they raised the price. I guess they were figuring people with cash laying around had to be stupid anyway. Stupid is as stupid does...

Sorry but he lives in Melbourne not Lakeland. Probably not much of a difference in temps but I felt like correcting you. :) I use to live in Melbourne, what area do you live in? I went to Eau Gallie High.
