  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have seen male softshells eat 2lb bass with no trouble at all.

There's really no way you can accurately sex a softshell at that size. Just FYI.

Really? well thats good to know...
He says he has a 3" male, a 6" male, and a female(didnt say size because i didnt ask lol). At what size can you accurately sex them? and whats the best way?

They are very active hunters, don't be surprised if they take a chunk out of a fish eventually.

...well then i may only keep him with fish temporarily. The fish are already much larger than him so they should be fine for a while(untill i upgrade the SST tank).

If I keep him well fed you think he will still try and NOM NOM on my fish?

You never know. Turtles are curios animals, might give out a few test bites. You never know though, just wanted you to be aware of the possibility.

They usually start showing characteristics (such has a fatter, longer tail in the males) at about 5-7 inches. Some mature earlier/later than others.

ok thanks for all the help/advice...i will keep a close eye on the turtle and as soon as i see any sign of him getting too "curious" ill remove the fish. Hopefuly by that point i will have a bigger tank for the turtle anyways, atleast thats my plan.
