I want to be optimistic but I have a feeling there's a chance we'll have another Hawaii situation at a minimum. Both in the Hawaii pet trade and the reef export trade.
Side note on that note, anyone remember what the the Hawaiian fishermen did in response to the aquarium export ban? All those pictures of wet markets full of "aquarium" fish because now the fisherman were getting paid the same amount to sell a dozen dead ones as they were getting paid to sell one alive? Polypterus is right on the money. Land developers sit on almost all boards here in SW FL including mundane committees like code compliance. The reason is to ensure that developers and builders have an upper hand on every front to promote land development. This post was to discuss the pet industry matter at hand not Disney and other political nonsense that has nothing to do with this issue. Please refrain from bringing up the political nonsense and stick to discussing the issue at hand.
They are directly tied together. To understand things, you need to find the cause, all issues discussed on this thread are directly tied to the political landscape in Florida. To separate them would be an effort in futility and would not net any solution that could have a chance of being effective.
The states politics need to change and that requires actions from the voters in not supporting groups that cause harm.
No they are not. It is all the other side that keep moving here that is ruining our way of life. And stop bringing politics into this discussion; otherwise I will provide you with my true feelings.
Anyone in another state that believes this will not effect your hobby is sadly mistaken. I personally know several fish farmers here in FL that are family businesses, some passed down through generations. New England, Midwest, West Coast...guess where a lot of fish that is supplied to distributors & wholesalers comes from. Buckle up it's going to be a bumpy ride.
FWC is not a voter or political entity. Quite frankly, this bill has a lot of support from all the nutjobs...PETA, radical environmentalists, etc. who have large bank rolls and a lot of political clout.
This isn't about feelings, it's about cause and effect. You seem unwilling to correct the cause, so the effect is inevitable.
