i just bout a little 2'' Flag tail ( http://www.canadianaquatics.com/fish/IMG_6025.gifSemaprochilodus taeniurus ). i know a bit about the fish already but my question is what do they like to eat other then veggies/algae and flakes?

what specific flake food should be fed?

what vegetables should be fed? how should they be prepared?

what carnivores food should be fed ( if any ) and how often?

thanks,

I have a bag of hikari massivore delite for my big catfish tank , and I just crush a pellet or two and it seems to be working great for my little flagtail and his tankmates in the smaller grow-out tank. I have only had my flagtail for a few weeks and I can already see a difference in size.

wow, that's very convenient for me since everyone in the tank is fed massivore.

i still would like to learn more about the flag tails diet.

Anyone?

thats very convenient, however its not healthy for flag tails naturally since massivore pellets are made of ground fish along with plenty of whey/wheat/soy proteins.. basically a high protein and meaty diet.

You can feed them zucchini, carrots, greed union (the long grassy kind you find at noodle shops), a small bit of protein is good but don't let them only eat massivore pellets. worms and other bugs could be used too if they choose to go after them.

Just curious what do you do with the carrots?

oh sorry. well iguess if you have full carrots you can grate them. i would buy grated carrots though. just rinse the sugar off if its non-organic.

great point about the protein! however, it may become a problem since it is the main diet of my ray and bichirs.... what would the side effects of a high protein diet be in relationship to a flag tail?

also, the shredded carrots idea sounds wonderful! would i have to blanch the carrots or zucchini? what prep is involved when feeding vegetables to flag tails?

one last question :)

what other good food should i feed? is there a specific flake or pellets that would be extremely beneficial to a flag tail? perhaps algae wafers or spirulina?
