ok im not too sure where this is suppose to go but ill put it here for now until the mods decide to change it but like the title says i just purchased a 3 inch flag tail recently and i didnt have another spare tank set up on the side so i thought he would be alright for a night in the grow out tank with some clown loaches and my small indo dats... i guess i was wrong because the next day his fins were torn and he was hiding in the corner of the tank... not sure of who the culprit is but i now have him in a 30gal quarantine tank until i figure out what to do with him...

but the real question is can i treat him the same way id do with most other fish and just up the temp and add aquarium salt to help the fins heal? or should i go another route with the flag tail? this is my first time keeping this kind of fish so any information would be greatful

Wherever you got the flag, all you need to do is provide a non stressful environment, good water params with no ammo or nitrite and low nitrate levels, and good temperature of course of about 24-27 degrees, and 90 percent of the time you'll find the fish will heal but could take a good few weeks depending on how bad it is. It will heal itself. I wouldn't bother with salt, it can stress the fish more.

Flagtails will heal very quickly the only other fish that I saw heal fast is a chocolate cichlid. Just leave him be and he will heal fast. The dats or the loaches could be the culprit. Flagtails do better with silver dollars. IMO

i was thinking that the dats were the ones responsible but could clown loaches really do that much damage?

Yes they have what is called an eye tooth located just behind the eye. This is razor sharp. Ever wonder why you see them kept with African cichlids and the africans leave them be?

the clown loaches maybe the ones who did the damage cause come feeding time the flagtail and the clown loaches went crazy over the algae wafers

The dats did it. I'd put money on it. Clowns don't use their sub occular spines unless they are like attacked themselves. It's a defence mechanism, they are peaceful fish.
