I have seen the Flagtail Prochilodus referred to on hear as a Fei Feng and I was wondering when did the new name come into use or is this fish a variation or sub species of the Flagtail.

thats what its called in asia or the flying phonix

Does anyone know how one would get along with small schools of tinfoils, balas, silver dollars?

They shouldn't bother one another but it might not get enough food since they are all greedy eaters. Flagtails are somewhat high strung and they like to graze algae. Sometimes it's hard to tell if they are eating enough. I personally have had bad luck with them, but have a friend who has some very nice ones, one close to 12". They really are beautiful when they do well.

Great Flagtail story: A dealer bought some small ones and put them into a large grow out vat. When they got about 4" he had someone interested in them. He drained the vat down to about 1', waded in and put in a big net. Next thing you know POW!, one of the Flagtails comes out of the water like a rocket and hits the dealer right in the eye!! The guy said his whole eye turned red as a beet and the eye doctor thought someone sucker punched him. Hmmm...maybe he was right!:D

Arent flagtails greedy eaters like tinfoils, silver dollars? You dont think they could compete well with these other fish????????

i have a 2"er with three 3" tinfoils and they swim together a lot. the tinfoils are a lot more greedy that the flagtail, but it eats just about everything its able to get in its mouth. i've had it for a month and it hasn't seemed to grow yet...maybe 1/4" :irked:

Ok so the flagtail does not pick at the tinfoils? what else is in the tank?
