In three days mine wiped out two weeks of alge growth

I have a planted 75 that I'm having problems with. There were a bunch of snails and a bunch of algae growing. I put 2 3"ers in there and most was gone within a week. About 3 days ago, I divided the tank and put my elong back in there. Now, there is already algae and a bunch of tiny snails on the "control" side w/ the P and the other side is still clean.
most of the time they don't eat your food you put in the tank until they are bigger cause they feed off of algae. then when they are bigger algae won't fill them up, so they start eating your food.
