mine, around 9".

can be kept in shoals of 8 and over in a huge tank. but they generally wont tolerate their own. but, can be kept in a group when very young.

Are agressive to co sp. but generally really peaceful. If you are going to do a few make sure it is a very large tank and even so sometimes this doesn't work. They just don't play nicely together.

How well will they do with Central / South American Cichlid species? I think they are gorgeous fish. I asked someone about them once before, and he told me the max size was only about 6-7 inches and that they did not have the guts to hang with Cichlids. So, I have kept them away from my tanks. It appears he was wrong at least about the size of them. Thoughts?

Can they be kept togeather? I only see one in every picture, just wondering if they fight each other?

No, 1 per tank. I hear they fight to kill.

I wouldn't even trust a shoal of them.

how fast do they grow?

I think they grow up to 7" fast then slow down.

Which cichlid species? There's hundreds of Central/ South American species. Are we talking about a jack dempsey or discus? Flagtails are really peaceful and just mind their own business. So I would keep them with other peaceful fish.

McPhishy,

Thank you for the response. I am talking about the nasty type. Odo's, Jag's, Umbie's, Cubans, etc. So, it sounds like still not a good idea even though they do get large enough.
