I am hoping to hear from fishkeepers having success feeding large cichlids flake rather than pellets , it is my contention that GOOD flake, like omega1 is every bit as good as pellets for large cichlids ... so agree or disagree? thanks for the input.... LEE

I've always fed my fish way more flakes than pellets. Pretty neat to watch a 10+" inch fish inhale flakes.

There's some flakes that are circles but for got the name but there nice ...

i agree...
to me there is no reason to feed a large fish flakes when you can get pellets that are just as quality and are alot more efficient as far as how much you have to feed them per feeding
and as everyone else has said the mess is alot less with pellets.

good responses ... thanks ... any truth to the rumor that pellets have more NUTRITIONAL VALUE THAN FLAKE .... my personal
thought is that its the same food just different DELIVERY system:)

Due to the design & shape of flakes, pellets are generally more nutrient dense, and more stable in water. (as in less nutrient leaching compared to flakes) This is not my opinion, but a fact that has been stated by some of the leading researchers in aquatic nutrition. Also flakes typically have a higher percentage of binding agents than pellets, which equates to more carbs/starch than pellets made by the same manufacturer.

So while one can certainly feed their large 10+ inch fish flake food, it certainly isn't an overly efficient way to go about getting optimum nutrient levels to ones fish.
