Hey....

Was wondering if i could get a lil help identifying the sex of my green terror? We named him/her Flash because hes always shooting back and forth showing off for us. Flash is 3 inches-no smaller then that i also have a few pix if that will help, but in all reality its probably WAAAY To Early!

Firgured it doesnt hurt to start getting opinions. Thanks in advance to any and all!

I often find places that sell blue acara as either GT's or as "Minni" GT's all just because they look similar. The "Minni" GT's are just a coin term to sell a fish that doesn't exist. Now I have seen it a few times online where ya get a GT to cross breed with an acara and you could say the results are a "Minni" GT but it's still technically a hybrid.

Personally I agree with the others saying that ya ended up getting a blue acara. Honestly I feel that they are a very underrated fish in the hobby, especially since ppl are more drawn to the electric blue acara now-a-days.

Your new GT (or whatever) looks to me, too young to make a definitive call on.
Most Andinoacara are hard to tell apart when young, and there are at least 6 other species in the genus beside the GT, and the blue (A. pulcher).
These species are also not static in appearance, they can change color and even shape (somewhat) day to day, hour to hour, and one mood to the next.
I keep a group of one of the other species, Andinoacara coerleopunctatus.
Below are all pics of the same few fish in that group.

As you can see, many phases.
I believe you should just wait until its older, and adult colors and shape will be obvious to you as to what it is.

so are you saying i was told it was a GT but sold a blue acara?

I don't think a bait and switch was done. It's not uncommon for an LFS to misidentify a cichlid based on their vendor or just by what they think it is. The vendor could have received a mixed shipment as well.

How long is this fish?
