My jack dempsey is flashing but he has no sign of ich or any other possible disease/illness i could find online. i'm getting my water tested the LFS within the hour and buying my own test kit. should i be concerned?

Fish flash when somthing is irratating them, it could be an eary sign of Ick before the cysts form and will not be visable. Testing the water is a good start if everything is fine do a 50% water change increase the temp to around 85 and add aquarium salt.

i did increase the temperature already just in case. im going to the LFS today (saturday 25% off sale) so is there anything i should pick up to be safe besides aquarium salt?

You should have a couple of meds on hand just in case. Jungle Ick cure or API super Ick cure are good to have on hand although most of the time salt and heat will take care of most common issues. API General cure is another good one to keep on hand. I try not to use meds unless it's absoultly nessisary, but like I said it doesn't hurt to have them just in case.

alright thanks, he's just been doing the same thing for like 20 minutes now so i got worried. hes just going in circles around the wall if that makes sense.

Get the water tested and start from there. Post the results when you get back.

Don't waste your money on "aquarium" salt... just go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of kosher salt for a couple bucks. Same stuff.

Just bump the heat and add salt... will probably clear everything up since you caught it so early.

no worries, i got my water tested and it's its ammonia: 0 No2: 0 and No3: 5ppm. also my JD stopped flashing, i guess he was just being more active than usual, who knows. but i did i pick up a pleco to help my brown algae breakout before it gets bad.
