Is there such a thing as a flat bulkhead?

Let me explain...

My 120's stand is a water tight acrylic box. It'll hold about 8 inches of standing water, up to the level of the bottom of the door hole.

I'll be drilling a couple of holes into it for the drip system input and the sump's overflow, and I was thinking of drilling a third hole nearby to be the overflow/drain for the actual stand.

That way I can splash around down there as much as I want (like today, when I accidentally detached my FX5 return without first turning the valve... heh) and not really ever have to worry. The drain can even join the sump overflow in a Y below the floor and head on out to the utility room.

But I need it to be as close to flat as possible. Otherwise the water won't drain until it's standing at a level higher than the thickness of the lip, whatever that may be (5mm? Total guess...). Ideally it could be flush with the bottom and I could just squeegee the floor over to the drain whenever necessary.

This would also give me freedom to run my old leaky 2028 down there as a second filter without worry. I'd really like that.

Suggestions? Doable with an actual bulkhead, or would I have to just cut/glue/silicone something together? I'd rather have it be removable.

Use a floor drain meant for a shower. Just like a bulkhead.

Really, to answer, I would need to see some pics of what you are trying to do. Sorry, I'm a bit of a visual person.

I read this last night and didn't understand. I read it this morning and I think I do. In the bottom of the stand, you can route down an area so that the bulkhead will be the lowest point.

Sorry to neglect this. I'm even more eager to learn if something like this exists now after my giant adventure yesterday spilling all over the place... having this watertight stand is a godsend...

Here's what I mean. Basically just that the lip is as low as possible so that any spillage can be squeegeed right out.

Second pic is a conceptual view for the whole setup.

The alternative is to actually design a sump that has space in it for me to actually set the 2028 right inside it. That way I won't care if it leaks. But that is unlikely - with limited space (doorway to stand is small) it's already going to be a challenge to have a large enough sump to do what I want with the drip and power outage security, even without the added displacement of a filter sitting inside. Better to just have a drain in the stand... sort of a second point of egress for the dirty water being replaced.

So yeah, a shower drain type fixture is perfect... if there's a smaller version of one that will mount flush with my acrylic stand and be 100% water-tight.

I just found this.

I think the shower drain is your best bet. The only other thing I can think of is putting a tray/bin underneath the filter withe a hose plumbed and running to the drain.
