Flat surface for Cons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Go with a small flower pot, that seems to be the best. I rubberbanded a stocking over my intake until I feel like they are stong/aware enough not to get sucked up.

mmk the media bag is staying on fine so i think ill stick with that

Just how fine is the mesh on your media bag? Do you have a picture?

i don't have a picture but im trying to think how to describe it, i guess mesh wasn't really the right word it's more like fabric - it's threaded really really fine, too fine for eggs or fry to get pulled through i was just wondering if the suction of the filter would be too intense with it - my other option is to cut an extra AC50 foam and rubber band that to the intake

Mine lay eggs anywhere, but usualy on the outside of the clay flower pot or a flat surface on one of the rocks. pantyhose on the inlet works good if your afraid of them getting sucked up.

The only problem I foresee with the fabric (or even panty hose) is that the derned things clog up so fast! Personally, I'd go the AC sponge route, but you can always wait and see how often/fast you have to clean the fabric. It was 3-4 times a day for me, so I have permanently refused to put pantyhose over the inlet of any filter. Well, other than the small whisper internal filter I have on my cherry shrimp tank, but that's because I don't have any rubber bands big enough to put a sponge or other type of pre-filter on it.

ill definitely look in to cutting the AC sponge when i get the chance, so far it doesnt look clogged though it also isn't 'skin tight' around the intake, the drawstring is tight around the top but the rest of the bag gives about a square inch at any angle around in the intake, we'll see how it progresses :P

Why go through all the trouble.........Once the fry are hatched, place the spawn in a 20g LONG and growout........Use sponge filters with fry..........10-20g costs between $10-40..........Do 50% water changes everday for thw first two weeks..........Feed the fry baby brine shrimp.........Live shrimp are way better, but the frozen type are way more easily stored, your choice........

Are they by themself? they will protect a fairly large area from anything including your hand, I was shocked the first time the male actually bit me. Mine have used a flower pot, a pit they dug, and a hallow place in some driftwood. The last batch was right next to my intake for a fuval 305, when I could get in there without distrubing them, I did find one baby had been sucked up but all the rest lived to procreate.
They will find a way, and will produce over and over as long as they are together.
