FLATHEAD CATFISH!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
flatheads are pretty ugly. Also hows the fishing? Never get up to the northern area of the state.

The only reason I'd want to keep a flathead is to scare little children with its fuglyness and go fishin' for it in my tank. It'd be interesting how the fish attacks the bait and trails along.

flathead hunt like sleepy cod they use the current to sweep fish past and bang as the fish go past tey have them in there trap. now if ur talking bout the aussie native flathead(this is why u should use scientific name) then u will need to keep in either brackish or saltwater depending on the species and a 300 gallon is a minimum size tank. and if u only have a 125g then dont get em.its like saying i have a 20 gallon and ill buy a barra and ill eventually have a 300. dude buy the tank before the fish

:ROFL: Thats a great idea i should threaton my little sister to throw her in the tank. Fishing shrimp tied to fishing line is fun.:headbang2

yea well i definetly know the size and how big they can get, we'll usually avg out at about 20-30 lbs at santee with no problem but weve caught some at times on zebco 33 that were 5 -6 in long and thats the size i would be keepin...and as far as when they do get big enough, my buddy has 3 ponds and one pind weve introduced all types of freshwater fish in and thats where it would go...unless he gets his "FLATHEAD" pond dug here soon which is in the works...the reason i love this fish is its not like catchin a big ole fat ass blue...this is a strong ass river fish, that fights HARD to stick to the bottom and dont quit, now dont get me wrong blues fight too but its nowhere near the same...a blue will spin and spin and spin tryin to get unhooked and a flathead will fight to stick bottom or just haul ass pullin line after line outta big ole abu garcia 6500 reals...man i wanna go to santee!!! haha and thats why i absolutely LOVE a FUGLY ole FLATHEAD!!! lol

heres some pics of mine ....................for someone to say they are just fugly is kinda funny to me in my mind they look just like a red tail but are all one color so go figure

heres one full grown at the bottom

Looks like a stonecat to me. I've kept dozens of them. Their coloration and tail shape are similar to flatheads, but you'll be hard pressed to raise one past 12-14". Biggest I've ever seen was 11" and that was in my tank, and matched the montana state record.
