A friend of mine acquired a flathead catfish. I was curious if anyone keeps one/some, and what his/her experience has been with it/them.

I used to to catch flatheads as bounty fish and sell them to paylakes in Ohio, I have caught some monsters and seen some true giants.

Pictures? :D

I had some for a while, They are like a RTC but they only eat live food, I fed mine nightcrawlers from 3" to 9" when I took it to cabelas. The biggest Flat that Ive caught was a 21 pounder. Ive got a pic somewhere let me look.

Flatheads get to 50 inches and over 100lbs and are like RTC s in temperment except that they arent as active in the daytime and are primarily ambush predators; do not put them in with any fish under half their size unless you have a large pond.

I have a decent sized one (about 3'), but I rarely see it since it's in my big pond.

My flathead catfish is pretty opportunistic from the few times that I have watched it eat. I've caught it while fishing in the pond with pieces of hotdog and live minnows, and it ate the red-eared slider that lived in the pond.
