I just ordered a floating alligator for my pond. It supposedly will help keep out blue herons and other predators.....what do you think? Will it be effective? I live in the midwest so there aren't real alligators, I wonder if the animals/predators will be smart enough to know that it couldn't be an alligator:nilly:

o haha i thought u ment it was like a species called a floating alligator

i bet they wont even know what an alligator is and itll use it as a perch

you should hook it up so if a bird comes it jumps out at them

I know people that have been both successful and failed w/them. The key is to move it around the pond every few days.

Try it w/a Heron statue.

Do you have a Heron problem?

Do you have a dog?

I don't have a heron problem....yet. I just bought some koi and when they get bigger they might attract them. I have seen them at a bigger pond down the road, but it is huge pond. Mine is onnly 1000gallons.

Lillies and caves will give them plenty of protection....

A simple cave can be made with a piece of flagstone and a couple of boulders.

I'm just worried because my fish are so friendly that would just swim up to a heron or other predator. I have seen some videos on youtube where the heron just waits for the fish to swim by and bam....good bye fish

yes it works i have so fake swans in my pond.

Everytime i see alligator farm pictures, there are usually herons in with them. Doesnt seem like too huge of a detterant.
