I like the egg crate idea. I screwed mine to plexiglass and burried it under the sand substrate.

i had the same problem i boiled it for a week constantly changing the water after every 2 hours and not it sinks perfectly 
i had the same problem.. mine floated for awhile.. i just kept boiling it fora couple hours then soaked it in a closed bucket over night then i checked to see if it sank and one day it finally did lol.. but if it still doesnt work.. i recommend fishing line to some rocks.
